In many cases, new designs don't work any better, but are implemented as a
marketing tool. .005% of the riders are capable of using any advantages
they may offer. Aluminum frames and dual chamber forks fall in this
category.

Obviously, the biggest improvement to any fork is obtained for proper
valving and springs. I've ridden old non-cartridge forks that worked better
that a poorly setup cartridge fork.

I worked on and re-valved a set of Showas on my son's 2000 CR 250. It
was pretty straight forward. Only tip I can recomend is to let the
forks drain their oil for a couple of days before performing surgery.

I'm a French elitist redneck. Only wine will do.
Either that or you can weld the gas tank holder on my trailer...

Bruno.

Bring it over. We'll drink the wine while we weld (I'm always willing to
try something new, at least once)

The bulk just dumps out, but the last 30cc or so takes a bunch of
time. There is a chart in the owner's manual that I think is kind of
amazing - it is a relatively complex plot of elapsed time vs.
remaining oil (in ccs) for a range of temperatures. You take the
ambient temp and amount of drain minutes, and the chart tells you how
many ccs you don't have to add back to get to the speced fill volume.
I think that's pretty bizarre.
