I test rode a new one in 2001.
Excellent engine and handled well. Quite a bit quicker than the R1150GS I
test rode the same day, and subsequently bought. A much nicer bike to ride
than Honda's Varadero. The standard screen worked fone for me.
At the time Aprilia reliability, spares availability and residuals were
relatively unknown. As the bike was very new the dealers were still asking
full RRP, which seemed a bit high to me. Hence I went for the year old BMW.
Since then, reliability & spares availability don't seem to be an issue.
There seem to be more Aprilia dealers around now.
More recently, heavy discounting of new and pre-reg bikes has hit
residuals, but this works in your favour. The price quoted is reasonable
IMV.
The main thing to check is the pillion perch. I've not seen anyone riding
one with a pillion, although most bikes in this category are good 2 up.
