Pin that throttle back, and pop that cluth, my kids did that, and it was
funny untill my p/u got in the way! No! go find some trail riding
area's, most are well marked ( easy to difficult), go to a dealer and
ask them about riding area's or go to your state's ohv web page. Welcome
to the club! Glad to have ya!

Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the group. Check out
www.msf-usa.org, the Motocycle Safety Foundation website. In our area they
have an off-road training course that I'm told is very good. I haven't tried
it but a friend at work and his teenage son went through it just a couple of
weeks ago and said it was a great way to get started. Since you already have
experience on the street you have the basics so I suggest concentrating on
learning to "read" the terrain and the effect body positioning. Also
consider the Gary Semics series of videos. I'm not sure what kind of riding
you're interested in...MX, XC, general trail riding etc...but maybe you can
hook up with someone you can ride with that you can learn from. That's
pretty much what happened with me when I got started dirt riding about 8
years ago. And don't skimp on protective gear for your body. A DOT/Snell
approved helmet and boots are a good investment. One last thing...remove
your clutch and brake lever perches and put a wrap of teflon tape around the
handlebar and mount them back over the taped area. Also consider some good
quality handguards that mount in the end of the handlebar then come around
and bolt to the handlebar or tripple clamp. These two things will save you a
lot of money in broken levers and perches.

Enjoy the ride!

I keep mine a bit loose too. Moreover, if I break off just the end of a
lever I leave it that way. I also carry half a dozen levers and ONE
complete assembly in my toolbag. You should see my purse Sad

I like the idea of using teflon tape, though. I've got about a dozen
rolls of it and very few uses for it. It didn't keep my Dell'orto carb
cap from sucking air either.

It allows the perch to rotate as opposed to breaking off in a crash. I
just tighten my perch bolts just enough so that they don't move with
normal use but can still move with a bit of a hit. The teflon tape might
be a better bet.

Yes I get that but until you try it you'll never know !! I don't do
anything I am not really sure I am not gonna case it or stuff it. I
just roll right around or over the big doubles and triples. On smaller
step ups and tabletops you can really just go ahead and roll over them
slowly, until you will just naturally start going faster until you
jump by accident.

i definitly want to do some mx

Most tracks have an "open practice" that you can run on the Wed or Sat
before a Sunday race. Just go to one of those and putt around, pay no
attention to the others, they fly right around you....my friends took
me and told me to keep your line over to one side and make no sudden
moves and you would be surprised how people leave you alone. Kinda
like skiing...And everyone gets respect for being out there. And they
were right.

I ride woods a lot, I have a "woods" bike as do most all my
friends....but I like the fact that there are no big trees or rocks at
the tracks and I can concentrate on my K-Style and not all the
obstacles that may cause sudden deceleration...I find the rythym (sp?)
on the track that is elusive to me in the woods. I would love to wear
a MP3 player and ride.

If you were local - I'd take you right over and show ya. I'm in CT and
you are prolly 4 hours away....you could do that ! Let me know.
