After nine years the bike's battery has finally died.

It is a VARTA 505 012 aka YB5L-B, 12N5-3B; I can find plenty online
for ~£15, plus ~£7 for the electrolyte, plus ~£7 fo carriage.

Is there any supplier of these, hopefully at lower cost, in the
vicinity of Enfield (Middx), that could be collected (and hopefully
cheaper)?

If you're anywhere near Bush Hill Park, try Bush Batteries:

Station Garage, Queen Anne's Place, Bush Hill Park, Enfield, Middlesex
EN1 2PX
Tel: 020 8360 3099

They may not have the Varta, but if you tell them the bike and year,
they might have something to fit.

The current battery came from a supplier at Station Parade, but I
can't seem to find them on the interweb. Bush Batteries web site
doesn't mention Varta, or Yuasa; but definitely worth a call.

Many thanks.

My father worked for a Varta distributor. They have an extensive UK
network.

http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/contactus/default.asp are in Enfield and
listed at http://www.varta-automotive.com/eng/index2.php?p=5&content=siteclick.p...anzeige
where you will find several others in North London.
