I have an 04 Roadstar and the idle mixture is (surprise) too lean.
The specs list a setting (2 1/2 turns) for the pilot screw, but it's
not identified on the carb parts call out (it's a Mikuni BSR40). Does
anyone know where this screw is on the carb?

Thanks,
Chris

It will most likely be under a metal cap that has to be removed, if it's
anything like the mixture screw on my SV's Mikuni BDSR39 carbs. The
easiest way is to *carefully* drill through the cap, making sure you
don't drill into the brass mixture screw underneath. Then screw in a
wood screw into the hole and pull on the screw with a pliers to remove
the cap.

Here's how one guy did it, your carbs are obviously different but the
same idea should apply:

Get the genuine Yamaha service manual. It might seem pricey, but it's
cheaper than a single valve adjustment and will pay for itself the
first time you use it to avoid having to go to the dealership.

Thanks Mark. I do have the Yamaha manual, but they neglect to tell
you how to adjust the screw, although they tell you what it's set at!

I did finally find the procedure at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.roadstarmagazine.com." target="_blank">www.roadstarmagazine.com.</a> It's on
the bottom of the carb ... plugged like you said.
