Howdy,

Which shop manual are you using to help you with this work?

Alas, the help you can get in a forum like this is severly limited.
If you do find someone familiar with the model you have, not being able to
SEE the bike is a major drawback. Then there is the inevitable
misunderstanding(s) in communication............

Good luck.

It's probably an automatic vacuum-operated petcock with ON, PRI and RES
positions. Gasoline doesn't flow until the engine produces vacuum by being
cranked by the starter or by actually running.

The lever pointing straight down is probably ON, straight back is probably
REServe, straight forward is probably PRIme.

If you disconnect the fuel hose and turn the lever forward and gasoline
starts running out, you'll know you have located the PRIme position.

Did you actually buy a new sender for $20? If not, replace the battery with a
maintenance free AGM type and screw the sender-type battery.

The sender just completed a circuit to ground through the electrolyte in the
battery.

Could be a corroded switch or poor electrical connection or an out of
adjustment switch.

Well, there are only a few trolls in this NG. If somebody starts telling you
that you're stupid for trying to fix your own bike or starts going on about
RTFM, just ignore him.

You can get into trouble if you believe what a Haynes manual has to say. I
spent an extra two days working on my pickup truck because of bad info in the
Haynes manual. The best manual is the official Yamaha shop manual.
