There's some bourbon in the cabinet and beer in the cooler. The
coffee's still mostly hot. Help yourselves.
I've been searching around here and the net for long distance tires.
We're leaving MA soon and heading for AK. Hope to see Zion and Brice
along the way. We expect pretty good roads most of the way, but want
to be ready for road work, rough road and gravel if we go up the
Dalton Hwy a bit to the Arctic Circle, and frost heaves since we'll be
up north in early June. I also need q tire that will giv eme good
grip and control on wet surfaces.
Most common tire I've come across is the Dunlop 401. I would have
preferred the Dunlop 402, but it seems to not be made for the Low
Rider any longer. Are there any other brands I should be
considering? Also, can I get away with changing over from dino to
synthetic oil? Would I be creating any problems with the Low Rider by
changing over just before the trip?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, tips, or comments.

GAAACK! OIL THREAD!

Do you have your oil change spots planned out, or will you be winging
it? Doing it yourself on the road, or taking it in while you have lunch?
Synthetic will allow you some leeway if you find you're 1000 miles from
the nearest oil change with 5K on the clock.

Thanks for the drink, diet pepsi for me.

Dunlop Elite 3's have been highly spoken of here . I haven't had a chance to
find out , the bike they were bought for got totalled . That set's waiting
for when the rubber on the new bike wears out .

Snag,
Thanks for the lead. I really like the tire's specifications. I
checked around and there's a MM90-19 (100/90-19) front. But the back
tire spec, 150/80-16, has no equivalent. Closest I can find is a
160/80B16. My calculation is the 160/80 will be about 8 mm wider than
the 150/80. I'll need to find out if there's any extra room to fit
the wider tire, unless someone in the NG has installed a 160/80 on a
2002 Dyna Low Rider.

Ride safe,

Manjo

Fins,

Way back in the cooler is some pepsi. Right now, we're looking to
have the oil changed at 5k intervals while at lunch. We'll be close
to 5k miles by the time we get close to Olympia, WA. The next change
will be shortly after re-entering the US near Glacier National Park,
MT. This 2nd oil change should get us home with miles to spare.

Sorry for the oil thread. I won't ask for brands and we've pretty
much made up our minds to go with synthetic. Just wanted to tap the
collective wisdom to avoid any potential problem that could be caused
by a direct change-over before a long trip.

I won't go into oil specifics or tire specifics, but I will make a
generalization that I live by. I won't make *any* changes right
before a long trip.

YMMV

roach,

Thanks. Words to ride by. Since the LR is new to me, I'd be thinking
any new noise would be synth-oil related.

Ride safe,
