Post subject: 1980 CB750K w/ 2700km's...special project, need help plz..

Hi all, I'm new here and look like I have finally found the right site to get answers to my questions. I'm normally a car guy but this project is special to me....

A little background...
My uncle bought this bike new in 1980, he dropped it in 82 at a very slow speed turn at an intersection where he was cut off by a woman in a car.

Since that time the bike has sat in his garage and he could never get er started again.

Well...my uncle has passed on and I bougt his house and the bike. I have done the following to this 2700km bike, yup thats right its still brand new lol...2700 cliks on her

Done this so far:
THOROUGHLY cleaned the carbs three times <weren't clean enough, spotless now and every orifice has had compressed air and carb cleaner through it>

Fixed stuck throttle cable

Changed the oil

removed gas tank -was too rusty inside
<running fuel through a bottle for now>

Checked spark - changed all plugs to new

Using car battery beside bike for now until I get a replacement

I think thats it so far.

ok now, I start the bike with the choke on and she idles very high at first but won't idle with the choke off. Every jet is clear etc, carb has been thorughly gone over.

I reset the pilot screws to 1 1/2 turns out from seated

throttle snaps back to start position no probs..

I havent had any help from other sites or people i have done this on my own so far, pretty good since the bike wouldn't turn over and evryone said it wouldn't run

I think someone played with the sync screws prior assuming they may have been idle screws, maybe my uncle try to get the bike running.

Anyway, i tested that theory tonight, with the bike running with the choke on I adjusted the sync a tad and the idle came down from the high 4k rpm to 1500-2000, I adjusted the throttle stop screw in hopes it would idle without the choke but no luck.

Do you figure this bike just need a proper sync or am I missing something because I don't understand how you set the sync if you cant get the bike to idle without the choke and how can you get the bike to idle if the sync is out of sync... make sense???

Thanks to anyone whos willing to help me out with this special project!!!

Has anyone seen any 1980 CB750K's with only 2700km's?

Thanks
Joe Smile
