It's a really crude Cagiva two-stroke single. Petroil mix, even.
Dreadful cosmetics, lousy electrics, primitive engine, excellent
chassis, nice looks. I wouldn't touch it with yours.
That said, if it's dirt cheap (like under 300 bucks) it's worth a try. >> Stay informed about: 1976 Harley Davidson 250, good fun? |

True dat, but if you are enough of scavenger hunter to track down
parts and enough of a wrench to keep it running it would probably be a
blast to fool around on, not to mention that there' s a whole
generation of people who would be astounded to learn that H-D actually
used to sell dirt bikes and that you have one!
I guess a big parts question would be how many of these made/sold
worldwide (they were actually Italian Aeromacchis, IIRC) and are the
parts from all of them interchangeable? That well might be deeper than
it appears on the surface. >> Stay informed about: 1976 Harley Davidson 250, good fun? |

The Rokon mentioned there was the fastest dirt bike I ever rode. The
Salisbury drive meant perfect hook-up at all speeds. I don't remember if I
rode it through water, so belt slippage was never an issue. The front wheel
disc brakes were the first seen on any dirt bike, and only took time getting
used to. They worked perfectly for me.
My owner friend sold it to another friend, who took it out for his first
time hill-climbing. He won the Michigan Class B championship after only
installing a longer set of swing arms. >> Stay informed about: 1976 Harley Davidson 250, good fun? |

Cagivas. Aermacchi made the four-stroke flat singles. I think the two
brands might have been owned by the same company, though.
