This event is just getting more and more wierd.

Superstock - 13 Laps, 60k (a normal SStk race)
Supersport - 22 Laps, 100k (long for SSport)
Superbike - 15 Laps, 70k (SB is normally a 100K event)
FX runs the 200.

Oh well, it's not like we're not used to truncated events in the AMA anyway.

Regards,

I think the 200 is usually on the boring side, I can't imagine
how boring it will be now that it is the FX class. I will
definitely record and FFWD through it later.

Is there any reason given for the 70k Superbike?

I suspect it's a further compromise solution between the AMA, the track and
Dunlop, all driven by tire concerns. From what was reported previously,
Daytona wanted Supersport as the class in the 200, they seem considerably
less concerned about tire issues on 600s, so it's not a huge surprise that
the SS race is longer. And there is tradition there - some of the support
races used to be 100m at Daytona in the past. The SB length must be driven
by what the parties are comfortable with regarding tires, just as the SStock
race was shortened last year. I also suspect it's the track that has been
hammering the length down the hardest, probably prefering that the SBs not
race at all, since they take away from the "feature" race.

Of course, our friend Tom will tell you it's all on the AMA...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Fuel and tires decided the length of the races, as they want no pit
stops for any reason other than the 200. Dunlop's new tire performed
extremely well and there is some talk about this "maybe" being a one off
year, though I doubt it, we'll see..........

I'm thinking tires too. That's the only thing that makes sense.

Does the banking consume that much extra fuel to require a shorter race?

I'm disappointed because I think the SB should be the premiere race, and now
it's being "upstaged" by both the 200 and the SSport races.

I think the 200 this year is going to be particularly bad. Last year we had
Great Drama, albeit an unexciting finish, year before we had 3 bikes in a
chase for the flag. I don't know if we're going to have that close of a race
this year or not. Who's running Hondas in FX? We going to have the Jake and
Miguel show again, or will it be Miguel and Kurtis show? Basically, is FX
going to be anymore competitive this year compared to last year? Also, if
Duhamel wins, does that count towards "number of Daytona 200 victories"? I'm
all for another notch in his gunbelt, but...I like even playing fields as
well. Would Duhamels "5 wins" be the same as Russels, for example.

Bah...

It'll more than likely end up a Miguel show, whether that will be an
asterisk on th win, is to be seen, my guess, yup! My understanding is
that all the SuperSports will be eligible to enter the 200, I'd expect a
couple bikes to make a big-time break away from the start and decide it
among themselves. Will attrition be a big factor? I'm thinkin' a big
yes! It's hard to imaging those 600's spinning 16 or 17k(or more!) for a
couple hundred miles, just hope it doesn't get ugly.......
