WTF? I smacked a hole in the left side cover and HOT sez they won't have a
replacement till January 8! I find that a bit hard to believe. I've had
this silly cover on order for over two weeks. I'd JB weld it but if it
leaks and I lose 200 of the 323 molecules of oil, that may toast the engine.

Any of you lewzers have a line on a well stocked Honda place? What's the
number for Service Honda?

This little episode has made be appreciate two strokes since I've had to
ride the backup. I gotta tell ya.... that 99 YZ 250 is a very capable and
fun bike to ride..... Not that it matters... but I think I'm faster on the
YZ than the CRF. That YZ turns quite nicely. Very light. That new Hinson
basket fixed the only real problem with that bike.

Honda better get their sxxx straight before they piss me off. Strike one.
I don't care how many MetroMoto races Ben Bostrom won.

It only breaks when you ride it. Move to Minnesota.

That certainly would solve my problem.

It's the crusty feeling from wearing tons of clothes all day that really
makes me long for the cold. Oh, and the incessant darkness.... and the
absence of vegetation..... the inability for me to ever actually warm up.
You are one lucky dewd.

My tomato plants did die in the freeze sometime around Thanksgiving. Sun's
o' bitches.

That always happens. Those things are almost as bad as DRZ400s.

Thanks. I couldn't get a firm delivery so I'm going to let the order ride
with HOT.

This blows. The hole is small. I don't have the guts to patch it.

As much as I enjoy riding my Husky 4-stroke, there are some things that
my YZ250 does better, which is why I'll probably never get rid of it.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

If it's just a hole, use:
QuickSteel $5/tube/roll
or
QuickAluminum $6/tube/roll

If it in a "stressed" area, that might flex, I'd wait on the cover.

The QuickSteel works well. I had a, uh, slight adventure on my way to
the Old Highway 40 Days motorcycle event up near Donner Pass a few
years back and ground a hole in the case of my FZR. That stuff worked
great. It took a while to set up as it was about 112 degrees out, but
without it I would have been SOL and not been able to ride the FZR
another foot. I carry a tube of it in my fanny pack while dirt riding.

Dave, bring it to a good welder but only let him touch it if he is
experianced with that stuff. I have a guy that lives in my old hometown
about 30 min from here and he can do anything and make it look new too.
This guy is unreal. If you want his name and # I will get it. That way you
could have a back up and it will only cost you 20 bucks.

Service Honda keeps no parts in stock. When you order something, they order
it.

If HOT can't fix you up, give Manchester Honda a try. They have had parts in
stock that other places were clueless about. Give them a call at
1-800-5HONDA4

Thanks Mr. Nelson.
I'm not desperate yet and hope to be able to wait for the new cover. If
not, I will inquire.

I don't know what I hit since I was on a groomed track.

I think parts of an implement used to prep the track got kicked up by the
front wheel and hit the left case.

Right now I'm not willing to risk a leak so I'll continue to wait for the
