do you know what a deep cycle battery is? It is the type of battery that is
supplied for house trailers, battery powered wheelchairs etc. It releases
it's charge in a constant linear fashion from fully charged to fully
discharged,as opposed to a starter battery which discharges a significant
portion of its amperage in a few seconds. This is why we speak of measuring
starter drop in evaluating a battery. Thus the fact of it having a deep
cycle on the charger is really not relevant. What IS relevant however is
the rate of charge. Although my only referance is wal-mart CANADA.. i
assume the US is quite similar, and the only charger they had with a deep
cycle setting delivered 2 and 10 amps. According to both UASA and gs
batteries, the charging amperage should not ever exceed 1/10th of the
amperage of the battery, eg 10 amp battery (vstar) should have a max charge
of 100 milliamps or 1 amp. With the older batteries many of us are used to
(yuasa
yb14la2 for example) we could get away with the overcharge because the caps
were removed during charging. The sealed battery will build pressure and
thusly heat due to the fact that it can only vent so quickly Explosion is
not likely, however they DO cook rather quickly even with a good charger,
Bottom line the wally world guy is probably a bit large. I made a 1500
milliamp charger out of a wallwart (powersupply) for a videogame. Look for
one that supplys 12 volts and 1200-1500 milliamps. cut off the plug,
determine which wire is positive and which is negative, connect it to the
battery observing correct polarity and poof, instant free trickle charger.
Yes "e" i said that horrible word "free" again...free is good and i top
posted too..nnnyahhh
